About Maré

I wove my first basket in 1987 in Waterville, ME. It was a 6” napkin basket which was as wonky as one could be. I knew I had found my passion and began buying books and supplies and weaving on a regular basis. 8 years later, I started teaching and never stopped.

My goal as a teacher is to create a relaxed environment where I can provide techniques and tips while also letting students make their own style as the baskets take shape. My workspace reflects my inspiration from foraging in nature and brings together my love for weaving, gardening, drying flowers, and making wreaths.

My favorite part of weaving is to see my baskets used in daily life. I love seeing my customers walking by at the Farmer’s Market each Saturday with their basket in hand, on their back or hanging over their shoulder filled with fresh veggies or flowers. That is why I do what I do.
